Appoint a Minister for the Digital Economy to champion the interests of Australia’s digital trade, e-commerce and digital services in Australia and overseas, and represent them in policy discussions which have an impact on Australia’s international competitiveness.

Every Minister in the Australian Government has a responsibility to champion Australia’s interests in digital trade and services where it pertains to their responsibilities.

The Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, the Hon Karen Andrews MP is responsible for technology and national digital economy issues. The Hon Senator Jane Hume was sworn in to the role of Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and the Digital Economy on 22 December 2020. Minister Hume leads digital technology issues in the Treasury portfolio and plays an integrating role across government, supported by the Digital Technology Taskforce, which sits in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
