recommendation/s
Undertake targeted outreach to ensure that current and aspiring services exporters are aware of these tools. In doing this, the Australian Government should collaborate with professional associations and other non-government partners.
Progress to date
Austrade delivers a comprehensive range of export services for fast-growing technology scaleups (“born globals”) focused on client needs like building the capability to scale into new markets and growing commercial networks abroad.
Services include customised 1:1 support to high-growth tech exporters, digital resources and webinars, and group programs like bootcamps delivered through Austrade’s Landing Pads. Exporters are engaged via direct outreach, digital promotion and key industry partners such as Fintech Australia, with whom Austrade has signed an MOU to co-deliver services. These services have been augmented by the Australian Government’s $9.6 million initiative over 4 years to boost fintech trade and investment flows.
The TradeStart Network is an extension to Austrade’s own offices and is delivered in partnership with State, Territory and local governments, and chambers of commerce. The TradeStart Network provides professional advice and assistance Australian exporters, including those in services export sectors, to achieve long term success in international markets. TradeStart provide exporters the combined resources of Austrade and each partner organisation to assist them to expand and grow their exports, providing local assistance and a direct link to Austrade’s services and overseas network.
TradeStart office locations can be found around Australia and encompass a range of business and export specialists who can connect business to support programs, as well as providing market intelligence and export advice.
The ACT Government, through the Office of International Engagement, has a dedicated trade team that includes export officers and an entrenched TradeStart adviser that assist export businesses of all sizes and from all sectors. A case management approach supports ACT businesses – from those who are just starting out with exporting, to established exporters looking to grow to new markets – access assistance, make connections and develop action plans to realise their goals.
