Encourage the establishment of an industry-led body to develop a stronger narrative about why e-commerce is good for Australia, particularly for regional Australia, and promote awareness of e-commerce issues. This body could be an industry focal point for engagement in our region.

Progress to date

The Australian Services Roundtable (ASR) has created the Australian Digital Trade Forum to develop a stronger narrative about why e-commerce in services and digital trade is good for Australia. ASR members will work closely together to identify Australian stakeholder interests in digital standards development and will participate with the Australian Institute for International Affairs in commencing informal stakeholder policy dialogue with government on Digital Trade and Security.

In 2021, through the Australian Digital Trade Forum, ASR has worked informally to undertake research and gather perspectives on a potential industry position on digital standards as well as contributed to research underway in the Global Services Coalition. Amazon has now joined the Digital Trade Forum and the next meeting will be held in the last quarter of 2021.
